Archos 97 Titanium HD tablet combines Retina display prowess with an obtuse name

Archos still isn't a major player in the tablet game, but it's working hard to carve out a tiny niche. The French device maker recently launched the GamePad Android gaming tablet, and it's back again with another slate that hopes to stand out.

To date, the Retina Display-like displays for Android tablets have come from big names like Google with its Nexus 10, but the Archos 97 Titanium HD aims to match it with a 9.7-inch IPS multitouch panel with an ultra-high resolution of 2,048x1,536 pixels. Its specs are otherwise similar to its GamePad, including a dual-core ARM Cortex A9 processor with a quad-core Mali GPU, 8GB of storage, and microSD and running Android 4.1 "Jelly Bean."

The 97 Titanium HD isn't the only second-tier tablet to be announced with the Retina-like screen, joining the Onda V972, which will have a $240 price tag for the same resolution as the Archos (though it comes with twice as much capacity and a quad-core processor). What this means is that the "premium" spec of a pixel-dense screen is starting to come downmarket, making it tougher for top-tier manufacturers to justify the extra cost for their tablets.

Over the next year or two, the Retina-like display will become a mainstream feature that will force manufacturers to develop new innovative features to justify higher prices. In the meantime, we'll need to wait to see how much Archos wants to charge for the 97 Titanium HD, and when it plans to start selling it.

الجهاز الجديد يعمل ضمن بيئة نظام تشغيل "أندرويد 4.1- جيلي بين"

كشفت شركة "آركوس-Archos" الفرنسية المتخصصة في صناعة الإلكترونيات الاستهلاكية عن حاسب لوحي أندرويد جديد، أطلقت عليه اسم "97 Titanium HD"، موجه خصيصاً لمنافسة جهاز آبل اللوحي "آي باد" ولوحي جوجل الجديد "نيكسوس 10"، إذ إنه يتمتع بدقة وضوح تماثل دقة تقنية "ريتينا".

ويأتي اللوحي بشاشة عرض قياسها 9.7 بوصة من نوع "IPS" بدقة وضوح 1536×2048 بيكسل، وهي نفس دقة وكثافة جهاز "آي باد 3"، ويعمل بمعالج ثنائي الأنوية مبني على معمارية "ARM Cortex-A9" بتردد 1.6 غيغاهيرتز، ومعالج رسومي "Mali 400"، ويحتوي على ذاكرة وصول عشوائي سعتها 1 غيغابايت وذاكرة تخزين داخلية بسعة 8 غيغابايت قابلة للزيادة عبر منفذ "مايكرو إس دي" ليستوعب سعات تخزينية حتى 64 غيغابايت.

ويعمل الجهاز ضمن بيئة نظام تشغيل "أندرويد 4.1- جيلي بين"، ومزود بكاميرا خلفية بدقة 5 ميغابيكسل بخاصية التركيز التلقائي "أتوفوكس" وكاميرا أخرى أمامية بدقة 2 ميغابيكسل. ويبلغ وزن الجهاز 1.5 باوند وبأبعاد 9×184×240 مم.

لم تفصح الشركة عن تفاصيل أكثر تتعلق بالجهاز أو موعد طرحه بالأسواق وسعره بعد، يُذكر أن الشركة أطلقت في الآونة الأخيرة تشكيلة متنوعة من الأجهزة اللوحية بقياسات مختلفة، منها "Arnova Family Pad" بشاشة عرض قياسها 13.3 بوصة بدقة 800×1280 بيكسل، الذي يدعم معظم أنظمة التشغيل التي تتضمن "لينوكس" و"ماك أو إس إكس" و"ويندوز 7 وفيستا وإكس بي" و"أندرويد"، فيما عدا نظام مايكروسوفت الجديد "ويندوز 8"، وجهاز "Archos 80 Cobalt" بشاشة 8 بوصة وبدقة 768×1024 بيكسل، وبذلك يُعد جهاز "97 تيتانيوم إتش دي" أول لوحي تنتجه الشركة بدقة وضوح فائقة تضاهي دقة شاشة ريتينا.
